What Is Regression?
So far we have seen how NLP powers the Techniques From Hypnosis. And Hypnosis has some specialised techniques of which Regression is one of them.
It’s important to note that the purpose of regression is not to prove the existence of past lives or to validate historical accuracy. But to ventilate the supressed or repressed unresolved emotions, memories or experiences in the form of symbolic language of the subconscious mind to gain insights, resolve issues, and promote personal growth.
In short, Regression helps ventilation of Repressed material.
Lets explore it in detail now,
The energy of Emotions, memories, or experiences that are generally traumatic are pushed down or buried in the depths of the unconscious or subconscious mind as defence mechanism to protect oneself from emotional pain or trauma.
These unresolved elements can have a significant impact on our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, even when we are not consciously aware of them.
Like the1st laws of thermodynamics states, Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, we cannot shoo away our emotions. This unresolved energy trapped within us continues to exert influence on our psychological well-being and manifests as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, phobias, or self-sabotaging behaviours.
In the context of therapy, uncovering and addressing suppressed or repressed unresolved elements is an important aspect of healing and personal growth. By accessing these hidden aspects of oneself, individuals can bring them into conscious awareness, process the associated emotions, and work towards resolving and integrating them.
It is through regression that we are able to accomplish revisiting past experiences, which could be the childhood memories, or even past lives to gain insights, release trapped emotions, and facilitate healing.
The process of addressing suppressed or repressed unresolved issues can be transformative. It lets the client release emotional baggage, gain a deeper understanding of themselves, and make positive changes in their lives. By shining a light on these unresolved elements, clients are able to free themselves from their grip and move towards greater emotional well-being and personal empowerment.
So far we have seen how through NLP and Hypnosis techniques we can make regressions effective by having developed the much needed Therapeutic Rapport, trust, willingness to participate in the process, using Ericksonian suggestions allow their subconscious mind to guide the experience. Post this the subconscious mind is able to explore their emotional landscape and identify the specific triggers* or patterns that lead to emotional distress and tap into the “Engram” which is the epicentre of radiating symptoms.
(*These triggers may stem from past experiences, unresolved traumas, negative beliefs, or unmet needs. By identifying these emotional triggers, clients can gain insight into the root causes of their emotional challenges.)
The negative energy trapped in unresolved emotions is discharged when they are expressed in a controlled and therapeutic manner, allowing for emotional release and relief and healing of any psychogenic problems. Which is know as Catharsis.
Catharsis can be defined as the process of purging and releasing pent-up emotions providing a deep sense of relief, liberation, and emotional cleansing.
The cathartic process is often accompanied by a sense of emotional release, clarity, and a renewed perspective on life and creating space for healing, growth and eventual transformation.
So let’s look at prevalent Regression Techniques:-
1. Age Regression
involves guiding the client back in time to revisit specific events or experiences from their current life. Could be a memory recall of significant memories from childhood, adolescence, or even earlier stages of life.
2. Revivification
involves reliving a past event in vivid detail, as if it is happening in the present moment. Guiding the client to mentally and emotionally re-experience a specific memory, to gain deeper insights, process unresolved emotions, and promote healing and transformation.
3. Age Progression
is the opposite of age regression. In this technique, the therapist guides the client forward in time to explore potential future scenarios. By accessing the subconscious mind, clients can gain insights into their future lives, set intentions, and create a sense of empowerment and direction in their present life.
4. Symbolic Regression
involves exploring memories and experiences in a symbolic or metaphorical way. Rather than recalling specific events, the client accesses and interprets symbolic representations of their experiences. This technique can provide deeper insights into the subconscious mind and reveal underlying patterns, beliefs, and emotions.
And Drum roll, finally..
5. Past Life Regression
is specifically designed to access memories and experiences from previous lifetimes. The Amarantos Certified Professional PLR Therapist guides the client into a relaxed state and directs their focus towards exploring past life memories. The client may recall details about their identity, relationships, professions, significant events, and emotions from past lives, allowing for personal growth, healing, and understanding.
